Did booze and drugs, a long-term medical condition, or something else cause the “Two and a Half Men” star to be hospitalized? Sheen had reportedly spent time with an adult-film actress and others
A cocaine bender may have preceded Charlie Sheen's sudden hospitalization on Thursday.
The "Two and a Half Men" actor was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles with stomach pains early Thursday morning.
Sheen's publicist Stan Rosenfield said in a statement earlier Thursday, "All I know is he was having severe abdominal pains and went to the hospital."
According to TMZ, which cites a "source inside the house," Sheen's house party on Wednesday turned positively narcotic when "after hours of drinking…a person showed up to the house with a designer 'briefcase' that contained multiple 'bricks' of cocaine."
TMZ added, "Sheen immediately began doing the drug for several hours."
Rosenfield later told TheWrap: "I can't comment because I have no idea if it's true. TMZ chooses to believe their source. I don't."
Bob Forrest of Hollywood Recovery Services said that he believes that Martin Sheen and other members of Charlie's family need to step in to help the actor.
"He's a smart, experienced addict," Forrest, well-known for his appearances on "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew," told TheWrap. "If he is as out of control as he seems to be, the only person who can really help him is his dad."
Or a doctor.
An individual close to the Sheen camp told TheWrap that a long-term hernia condition, that may or may not require the actor to undergo surgery on Friday, was in fact the reason for Sheen being rushed to the hospital on Thursday morning.
A 911 call was placed at 6:35 a.m. and the actor exited his Los Angeles house on a stretcher about thirty minutes later, with his face partly covered.
TMZ later reported that porn star Kacey Jordan was one of the people at Sheen's home with him sometime before he was taken away by ambulance. Around 12:45 p.m. PT, Jordan posted on Twitter that "my phones are ringing off the hook! ugh." During a recent visit to Las Vegas, Sheen was said to be spending time with another adult film star, Bree Olson, and others.
Sheen's Las Vegas bacchanals have been headline fodder recently, and speculation about whether he would make "Two and a Half Men" call times have been the source of water cooler chatter throughout the industry.
Co-star Jon Cryer even joked on Wednesday's "Conan" about the disruptions that the star's unpredictable behavior was causing.
"I'm checking TMZ, as I do everyday, to know if I have to go to work at all," Cryer said to audience applause.
Sheen's illness won't impact filming on the latest season of the sitcom. "Two and Half Men" is on a scheduled hiatus this week, Warner Brothers television officials told TheWrap.
This latest Charlie incident comes just weeks after the star was partying hard with porn stars and missed a call time on the set of his hit CBS sitcom due to what Rosenfield said an ear infection. Television’s highest-paid actor hit Sin City with a vengeance two weekends in a row this month — one of which saw Sheen up on stage at Drew Carey's Improv show at the MGM Grand.
Sheen's recent court appearances, rehab stints and partying with porn stars has left even the star's usually indulgent corporate bosses openly worried.
CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler told the Television Critics Association on Jan. 14that she and the network had a "high level of concern" over the actor’s antics.
"You can't look at it simplistically. Charlie is a professional,” Tassler added as reports circulated of CBS, and Warner Bros. TV, who produce the show, contemplating shutting down the show to get Charlie back in rehab. “He comes to work, he does his job extremely well — we're taping tonight — and it's, as I said, it's very complicated."
Despite the scandals, "Two and Half Men"s' ratings have remained strong, with last Monday's episode scoring a 4.6 rating in the key 18-49 demographic.
