TV Academy chairman and CEO John Shaffner has won a runoff battle and will serve another two-year term at the organization.

Shaffner defeated digital-focused Brian Seth Hurst, who had been second vice-chariman of the Academy. Last month, the two battled to a tie, leading to Wednesday night's runoff.

While Shaffner won, he now has the unenviable task of trying to keep the Emmy franchise alive. The Academy's deal with the Big Four broadcasters expires this fall, and early indications are the networks aren't rushing to re-up.

Check back for official details on the election "drama" later tonight.
