"Reno 911" co-creators Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon will produce the sci-fi comedy pilot "U.S.S. Alabama" for FX in September.
FX's president and general manager John Landgraf announced the pickup at the annual TCA summer press tour Tuesday.
"It takes place in space with a crew of spacefarers who might not be much brighter than the cops in "'Reno 911,'" Landgraf said.
Landgraf said "U.S.S. Alabama will be "partially scripted, partially improvised like 'Reno 911.'"
"Reno 911" ran for six seasons on Comedy Central from 2003-2009. "U.S.S. Alabama" is part of a comedy expansion at FX, which also announced the renewal of Louis C.K.'s sitcom "Louie" and showed off the new private eye dramedy "Terriers" at the TCA event.
