"The Vampire Diaries" has cast Joseph Morgan as original vampire Klaus.

Morgan, who plays the lead in ABC's upcoming "Ben Hur," is no stranger to timeless characters. He'll next be seen with future Superman Henry Cavill in "Immortals." He has previously appeared in "Master and Commander" and "Alexander."

Klaus, an ancient vampire, was described in a casting notice for the CW hit as "the only person who can out-Damon Damon. That’s because he’s got a thousand years on him. Klaus is one of the Originals. Possibly the oldest. But you’d never know it because he keeps up with the times." (Thanks, Spoiler TV.)

Morgan also appeared in the BBC miniseries "The Line of Beauty" and in Masterpiece Theater's "Mansfield Park" (above).
