Louis C.K. Talks 'Pootie Tang' -- 'a Very Huge Mistake'

January, 16, 2012 1:30 pm | Comments On #Louie, Louis C.K., Pootie Tang, Television

Louis C.K. is thriving -- his standup gigs are packed, his hit FX show "Louie" is a critical darling, and his self-produced standup special, "Live at the Beacon Theater," turned a very fast profit.

But he took a few minutes Sunday to look back on what he considers one of his greatest failures: "Pootie Tang."

Hulu Unveils Political Campaign Series, Documentary Shows from Spurlock and Linklater

January, 15, 2012 1:00 pm | Comments On #A Day in the Life, Battleground, Hulu, Media, Morgan Spurlock, Richard Linklater, Television

For the first time in its history, Hulu took the stage at the Television Critics’ Association on Sunday to unveil a slate of programming designed to make it a bona fide content maker.

It may be best known as a one-stop shop for last night’s  episodes of hit shows like “Modern Family” or  “The Daily Show,” but that could soon change. Like Netflix and YouTube, Hulu is betting on original content by partnering with such prominent filmmakers as Morgan Spurlock (”Super Size Me”) and Richard Linklater (“Dazed and Confused”).

The three shows include a scripted series about...

Russell Brand Cites Kurt Vonnegut to Address Katy Perry Breakup

January, 15, 2012 12:45 pm | Comments On #Katy Perry, Kurt Vonnegut, Russell Brand, Television

Celebrities, take note: This is how you handle intrusions into your personal life.

Reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour tried gamely to ask Russell Brand on Sunday about his New Year's Eve divorce filing from Katy Perry. He went the intensely intellectual route, first euphemistically referring to the breakup as "events" and referencing Kurt Vonnegut.

FX President on Charlie Sheen's 'Anger Management': We Like Risks

January, 15, 2012 10:57 am | Comments On #American Horror Story, Anger Management, Charlie Sheen, FX, John Landgraf, Television

FX president John Landgraf said the network picked up Charlie Sheen's new series, "Anger Management," based solely on a pitch and brief outlines for 15 episodes -- but believes it is worth the risk.

"We're a network that likes to take risks," he said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Sunday.

Landgraf says the network generally doesn't pick up shows that haven't shot pilots, but made an exception for "Anger Management" in part because the show is inexpensive to produce. Lionsgate, the studio behind it, covers much of the cost, he said.

Landgraf is known for giving FX shows an...

'Walking Dead' Writers: We Don't Know What Created Walkers

January, 14, 2012 6:05 pm | Comments On #AMC, glen mazzara, Television, Walkers, Walking Dead

Wondering what caused the apocalypic outbreak of walkers on "The Walking Dead"? Keep wondering. Because the show's writers say they don't know either -- and aren't terribly worried about it.

"Internally, we don't know where the zombie outbreak started, how to cure it, anything like that," show runner Glen Mazzara told TheWrap. "We haven't really discussed it. We're more interested in the continuing storylines."

'The Killing' to Reveal Killer at End of Season 2

January, 14, 2012 5:03 pm | Comments On #AMC Theatres, Television, The Killing

"The Killing" will reveal its killer at the end of its second season, AMC announced Saturday.

The news confirms what fans of the show strongly suspected at the end of the first season's finale: the man arrested for Rosie Larsen's killing in the episode wasn't necessarily the killer. (We're trying to keep this as spoiler-free as possible.)

'The Killing' to Return April 1, 'Walking Dead' Season 3 Extended (Updated)

January, 14, 2012 4:10 pm | Comments On #AMC, Comic Book Men, Mad Men, Television, The Killing, Walking Dead

One of last year's most divisive cliffhangers is about to get a resolution -- or at least offer you more to fume about: AMC's "The Killing" will return Sunday, April 1, with a two-hour season premiere.

The announcement was one of several from the network Saturday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. AMC also said "Breaking Bad" will return for its fifth season in the third quarter of this year, and that the third season of "The Walking Dead" will be 16 episodes, rather than the 13 episodes for the current, second season.

Melissa Rycroft Doesn't Expect Long-Term Fame

January, 14, 2012 3:55 pm | Comments On #Melissa and Tye: A New Reality, Melissa Rycroft, Television, The Bachelor, Tye Strickland

Melissa Rycroft is the rarest of rarities in the world of reality television: a star who doesn't want to act or record an album, and doesn't expect reality fame to last forever.

Her new CMT series, "Melissa and Tye: A New Reality," finds her and husband Tye Strickland managing a commuter marriage: While she pursues a TV career in Los Angeles, he travels to Dallas to build his insurance company -- because the couple considers his work crucial to their long-term success.

"This world out here is really silly to us," said Rycroft, speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena on Saturday. "His job is our long-term income...
