'American Idol' Auditions Coming to ... MySpace?

Fox is still betting that MySpace can be revived -- "American Idol" to the rescue!

The Fox show announced during its finale Wednesday night that auditions for next season would be held not only in cities across the U.S., but on the flagging social network as well.

"In celebration of the show’s upcoming tenth season, hopefuls across the country will have the opportunity to get their foot in the door – from the comfort of their own homes," Fox said in a press release later.

Any kind of cross-promotion with "Idol" only makes sense for MySpace, for which Rupert Murdoch paid more than $500 million to acquire in 2006 before it started shedding users and revenue hand over fist.

It's not the first time Fox has leveraged one of its bona fide hits to bring traffic to MySpace; last month Fox announced that open casting auditions for "Glee" would be held there as well.

We anxiously await the announcement on "Avatar 2" extras.
