If Comedy Central's new programming chief had a movie-inspired nickname, it might be Old School.
Kent Alterman, a former Comedy Central executive who more recently has been a producer and directed the Will Ferrell remake of "Semi-Pro," is returning to the network to serve as head of programming and production. He fills the vacany left by Lauren Corrao's departure last year.
Alterman left Comedy Central almost 10 years ago, quitting his gig as head of New York development to pursue a producing career. He'll be based in Los Angeles this time and will report to Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless.
Doug Herzog, president of the MTV Networks Entertainment Group, called Alterman "one of the preeminent creative executives working today. His finely tuned comedic instincts are sure to bring great new programming to the channel.”
Ganeless was similarly filled with praise for Alterman, citing his experience and relationships.
Alterman, who produced and wrote the beloved Michael Moore NBC series "TV Nation," was based at New Line from 2001 until 2006, working on pictures such as "Elf" and "A History of Violence."
