Dustin Hoffman has agreed to do television, signing on to star in David Milch's new HBO project "Luck," according to Variety.

HBO last year ordered a pilot for the drama, which revolves around the world of horse racing and betting. The combination of Milch and now Hoffman -- plus previously announced director/executive producer Michael Mann -- would seem to make "Luck" all but a lock for an eventual series greenlight.

Dennis Farina and John Ortiz are also part of "Luck," which will begin filming this month, Variety said.

"Luck" would be Hoffman's first TV series project since becoming a star in the late 1960s (and possibly ever, if IMDB is to be trusted). Hoffman's biggest TV role was his 1985 performance in CBS's l presentation of "Death of a Salesman."
