MTV's scripted spending spree continues with word the network has greenlit production on the puppet comedy "Warren the Ape."

The series, a spinoff of the late Fox half-hour "Greg the Bunny," will mix elements of scripted comedy with fake reality, revolves around a D-level celebrity puppet named Warren "The Ape" Demontague. Having tasted fame on "Greg the Bunny," Warren's life has been on the skids since the show's cancellation; he jumps at the chance for his own reality show.

“Comedy consistently resonates with our audience and we are building a diverse slate that brings an MTV twist to the genre,” said Tony DiSanto, president of programming, MTV. “‘Warren The Ape’ is a live action scripted comedy that tells the tale of an ape trying to revive a career in Hollywood by any means necessary. This show truly has a unique visual style and tone as well as a creator driven voice that is fresh and exciting.”

"Warren" is expected to feature regular real-life celeb cameos ($10 somebody from "The Hills" shows up by week four). The show will premiere sometime in 2010.

Spencer Chinoy, Sean Baker and Dan Milano (who also portrays Warren) are executive producers and creators of "Warren."
