Apparently, there's nothing Neil Patrick Harris can't do.

Fox has confirmed that Harris, the star of CBS's "How I Met Your Mother," will be a guest judge on an episode of "American Idol" next season. Harris was in Dallas today for auditions and passed judgement on potential Idols all day long, a Fox spokeswoman confirmed.

Harris, of course, is set to host next month's Emmy awards. So far this year, he's also fronted the Tony Awards and the TV Land Awards.

While it might seem odd that a comic actor would sit in as an "Idol" judge, Harris has a deep background in musical theater. You know, exactly the kind of thing Simon Cowell likes to complain about whenever a contestant is "too Broadway."

Memo to Fox: Hugh Laurie also has a music background. Just sayin'....

Meanwhile, here's NPH singing two numbers. First, a bit from "Rent"....
