'Star Trek Into Darkness': What the Critics Think of the Sequel

May, 17, 2013 9:07 am | Comments On #Movies, reviews, Star Trek Into Darkness

"Star Trek Into Darkness" was released on Thursday to mostly strong reviews.

Mostly.

Let's begin with A.O. Scott of the New York Times, who completely destroys the aforementioned generality, saying, "It’s hard to emerge from “Into Darkness” without a feeling of disappointment, even betrayal. Maybe it is too late to lament the militarization of 'Star Trek,' but in his pursuit of blockbuster currency, Mr. (director J.J.) Abrams has sacrificed a lot of its idiosyncrasy and, worse, the large-spirited humanism that sustained it." Scott calls the climax scene, "uninspired hackwork" and says Abrams "prefers to cautiously follow and skillfully pander."

Jon Stewart Mocks Media Fixation with 2016 Presidential Race

May, 17, 2013 8:01 am | Comments On #2016, Hilary Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Jon Stewart, Television

How soon is too soon to start thinking about the 2016 presidential race? This soon, says Jon Stewart.

The "Daily Show" host ridiculed the short-attention span talking heads who are already declaring the likely candidates -- if not nominees -- in the upcoming presidential race. He particularly mocked those who say Hillary Clinton is a lock for 2016, noting that Joe Scarborough promised in 2006 she would "crush" Barack Obama.

"Wow, so, 1,000 days before the first primary, with zero states reporting, or caring, I feel very comfortable calling the Democratic primary for Hillary Clinton," Stewart said.

Stewart also suggested that MSNBC's Chuck Todd might want to focus less on predictions, and more on pronounciations, mocking the way he misread the word "literally" on the air.
