Hey, at least The Chainsmokers didn’t beat David Bowie. But music fans were still horrified Sunday as the DJ duo accepted an award for Bowie’s “Blackstar” on his behalf.
Bowie’s “Blackstar,” released just before his death last year, won for Best Rock Song — beating out the likes of Radiohead and Metallica. He also swept every category for which he was nominated.
The Chainsmokers accepted the Best Rock Song Grammy for Bowie and the late rock icon’s fans were not having it.
Bowie fans immediately took to Twitter to express their anger, because though Chainsmokers songs have dominated the charts, some fans and critics find them vacant and surface-level.
“I PROMISE DAVID BOWIE DID NOT WANT THE CHAINSMOKERS TO ACCEPT ON HIS BEHALF,” said one twitter user.

Unbelievable as it seems, the five awards Bowie received Sunday were his first musical Grammy awards.
In life, he received only one award, the Grammy for Best Music video, for his 1985 track “Jazzin’ for Blue Jean.”
