Users can buy select artists’ merchandise directly off Twitter

Twitter feeds for music artists like Pharrell , Demi Lovato and Eminem have become testing grounds for the social networking site’s long-rumored “Buy Button.”

Select Twitter users will see these new “buy” tweets from the social media platform’s test partners, allowing followers to purchase merchandise directly from the tweet. Initial test feeds include other artists such as Brad Paisley and Keith Urban, and also major brands like Home Depot and Burberry.

Twitter claims that the purchase will be simple, accomplished in just a few clicks.  Payment and shipping information is encrypted and stored after the user’s first transaction.

“This is an early step in our building functionality into Twitter to make shopping from mobile devices convenient and easy, hopefully even fun,” said Tarun Jain, group product manager at Twitter. “Users will get access to offers and merchandise they can’t get anywhere else and can act on them right in the Twitter apps for Android and iOS; sellers will gain a new way to turn the direct relationship they build with their followers into sales.”
