Universal Halts Plans to Make Paul Greengrass and Scott Rudin’s MLK Movie

The studio had an aggressive timeline for “Memphis,” but the pieces didn’t fall into place on time

Universal has discarded plans to make "Memphis," director Paul Greengrass's take on the 1968 assassination of Martin Luther King, TheWrap has confirmed.

The studio wanted to get the movie into theaters by Martin Luther King Day — the third Monday of January — 2012. Getting the many elements in place in time proved too ambitious and the studio decided not to go forward.
