After 39 years on the team, executive vice president Gaines will make way for current senior vice president Bunnell
After 39 years on the Universal Pictures distribution team, executive vice president and general sales manager Mark Gaines will retire effective Jan. 11, the studio announced Friday.
Steve Bunnell, current senior vice president and assistant general sales manager will be promoted to EVP, taking over Gaines’ position as head of sales.
Gaines joined Universal Pictures’ distribution team in 1976 as a booker in the Atlanta branch office. In 1990, he relocated to Los Angeles as vice president, division manager, and was promoted to his current position in 1997.
Bunnell joined Universal in February 2015 and worked alongside Gaines on matters related to the licensing of Universal’s theatrical releases. Before starting his stint at Universal, he was a film buyer for Mann Theaters, and served in executive roles with Samuel Goldwin Company, Loews Theatres, The Weinstein Company and Cinemark Theatres.
