Universal’s ‘Endless Love’ Remake Romancing the Box Office on Valentine’s Day

The upcoming film is based on Scott Spencer's 1979 novel of the same name, which was first made into a movie in 1981

"Endless Love," a romantic drama starring Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde, will be released in theaters on Feb. 14, 2014, Universal announced on Tuesday.

Shana Feste ("Country Strong") is directing the remake, which explores the relationship between a privileged girl (Wilde) and a charismatic boy (Pettyfer) whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart.

Bruce Greenwood ("Star Trek Into Darkness") co-stars as Wilde's disapproving father, while Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2: Judgement Day") plays Pettyfer's mechanic father.

Rhys Wakefield, Dayo Okeniyi, Emma Rigby and Joely Richardson are also set to appear in the remake of a 1981 drama, which starred Brooke Shields and was based off of Scott Spencer's 1979 novel of the same name.

Scott Stuber and Pamela Abdy of Bluegrass Films are producing the film with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Fake Empire. Josh Safran ("Gossip Girl") co-wrote the screenplay with Feste.
