U.S. Films No Longer Going Down Under

For the first time in two decades, a year has gone by without a single big-budget U.S. film shot in Australia.

Hollywood’s flirtation with shooting Down Under has hit a dry spell: Not one big-budget U.S. feature shot in Australia in the past 12 months, the first time in nearly 20 years.

The drought was highlighted in the annual Screen Australia Drama Production Survey, which showed foreign production in Australia had plunged from $227 million last year to just $20 million in 2008-2009.
