USA Makes First Festival Pick-up, a Melissa Leo 9/11 Film

Cable network acquired “The Space Between” at the Tribeca Film Festival

USA Network announced the pick-up Thursday of the 9/11-themed indie movie "The Space Between," which stars Melissa Leo as a flight attendant who befriends a 10-year-old Pakistani boy flying on 9/11.

The Travis Fine-directed film is the first movie the NBC Universal-owned channel has acquired at a film festival (it was purchased at Tribeca).

The movie will air on Sept. 11, 2011, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, USA officials say.

"After screening the film during the Tribeca Film Festival, we knew that its home had to be USA," said Jane Blaney, executive VP of programming, acquisitions and scheduling for the  cable channel.
