Valerie Van Galder to Head Marketing at New Regency

Hiring of vet Valerie Van Galder caps string of New Regency appointments, including Tim Clawson as head of physical production and David Manpearl as production vp

New Regency continues to upgrade its film team, adding veteran marketing whiz Valerie Van Galder.

She'll begin her new job as persident of marketing on Monday.

Previously, Van Galder spent 10 years at Sony Pictures, where she established the Screen Gems marketing department before being promoted to president of marketing for Columbia Pictures. There she oversaw the marketing of "The Da Vinci Code," "Hancock" and "Spider-Man 3" among other films. 

“Valerie brings an incredible wealth of marketing experience to New Regency,” said the company's president and chief executive Brad Weston. “Armed with creativity, talent and energy, she is the perfect candidate to market the roll-out of our upcoming film, television and digital projects.”

Since leaving Sony at the end of 2009 she has been consulting for clients including Disney, where she was handled the marketing for the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, Facebook and Walden Media. Prior to working at Sony, she served as senior vice-president of marketing at Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Her hiring caps a series of recent appointments by Weston.

Tim Clawson, formerly at the Weinstein Company, has come aboard as executive vice-president, head of physical production. He previously served as executive vice president, physical and post production for Miramax and Dimension, where he worked with Weston.

“I am personally thrilled to be able to work with him once again and New Regency is looking forward to applying his talents to our slate,” said Weston.

David Manpearl, who was a senior vice-president at Mandeville Films, is the new vice president of production. 

At Mandeville, he worked on “The Muppets” and was an executive producer on the upcoming film “21.” Prior to that, he was a vice president at McG’s Wonderland, where he served as co-producer on the film “Stay Alive” and was a production executive on the TV series “The OC.”

New Regency has no releases slated for this year, but they'll have plenty to work on. Among the company's projects in development are:

> "Broken City," directed by Allen Hughes and starring Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe, set for January 2013;

> "The Internship," a comedy starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, set for 2013;

> “Twelve Years a Slave,” starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender. which has no date yet;

> "Noah,’ Darren Aronofsky’s take on the Biblical tale starring Crowe and Anthony Hopkins, which is slated for 2014.
