Warner Bros. Pictures has dated is feature adaptation of mobile game sensation “Minecraft.”

Rob McElhenney of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fame will direct the film, which is scheduled for a May 24, 2019, release.

“Minecraft” is one of several examples of mobile hits getting the big screen treatment.

Activision Blizzard has properties like “Candy Crush” ripe for the feature treatment, and producer Tripp Vinson has partnered with Halfbrick Studios to adapt the produce-slicing game “Fruit Ninja.”

The appetite for such content is still unknown. Sony Pictures’ big-screen version of Rovio’s massive “Angry Birds” franchise recently opened respectably in the U.S. and raked in more abroad.

Some industry analysts, however, doubted the legs of such recently created intellectual property.
