Watch Bill O’Reilly Try to Convince Ellen DeGeneres That Trump Isn’t a ‘Crazy Man’ (Video)

“I had no idea that he was really, seriously thinking about running for president,” O’Reilly says of Trump

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly went on “The Ellen Show” with Ellen DeGeneres on Monday and tried to explain that Donald Trump isn’t a “crazy man.”

O’Reilly admitted that he hangs out with Trump at Yankees games, but “The “O’Reilly Factor” host joked that when Trump first told him he was going to run for president, O’Reilly asked, “Of what country?”

“I had no idea that he was really, seriously thinking about running for president,” O’Reilly said. “Because it is a very harsh gig. It’s harsh. And he has a very thin skin. But I don’t think he’s some kind of irresponsible crazy man.”

DeGeneres said the election seems “more toxic” this time around than in recent history, adding that it will be polarizing no matter who wins.

O’Reilly said Trump can’t release his tax returns because they would “become the story” as we get closer to Election Day. DeGeneres pushed back, asking if Americans have a right to see them, to which O’Reilly said Trump was making a “calculation.”

As for Monday’s presidential debate, O’Reilly doesn’t think the candidates will be as “nasty” to each other as some expect and would advise both candidates to be “civil” because Americans deserve to hear how each would solve specific problems.

“I think they will be more measured,” O’Reilly said. “Trump is a wild-card guy. He could do or say anything… Clinton is a little bit different. She’s more measured and more policy oriented. But if she goes after him, then anything could happen.”

DeGeneres asked the Fox News host why he doesn’t consider running himself.

“I just think it’s a dirty game. Look what they’re doing to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump,” O’Reilly said. “They just rip you apart.”
