Add this to the pile of retroactively awkward video clips surrounding scandal-plagued former “Today” co-host Matt Lauer.
In the wake of Lauer’s ouster from “Today” amid an accusation of inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace, a clip has resurfaced of Lauer’s former “Today” colleague Meredith Vieira calling him out over the “huge bag of sex toys” he had in his office.
Lauer’s dismissal was announced on Wednesday’s episode of “Today,” after a complaint was filed against him. Since then, multiple other accusations against Lauer have been unearthed, including a report Wednesday that he once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present.
The prior sex toy discussion occurred during a 2016 episode of Vieira’s since-defunct talk show “The Meredith Vieira Show.”
“I went into your office once — do you remember this? — snooping, and you had a huge bag of sex toys. Do you remember this?” Vieira asked Lauer. “Yes you did! In your closet, Matt, you did.”
Lauer then attempted to explain away the incident.
“We had a guest on the show who was a … what was she? … a sex therapist. And so when she left … she gave each of us a shopping bag of stuff,” Lauer responded.
“I didn’t get a bag of stuff!” Vieira protested.
“I didn’t know what to do. I put it in my closet in my dressing room. The next day, we had Laura Bush on the show. And the Secret Service came with the dogs to sweep our dressing rooms,” Lauer continued.
“They open up the thing and I see the guy pick up the bag. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God!’”
Clearly, that wasn’t the last “Oh, my God!” moment that Lauer has been involved in.
