Watch ‘Orange Is the New Black’ Season 5 Pick Up Right Where We Left Off (Video)

Netflix has released the opening moments from the premiere episode

Netflix has released the first moments of “Orange is the New Black’s” Season 5 premiere, showing that things are picking up exactly where they left off: in the middle of a riot.

We last left the inmates at Litchfield in the beginnings of a riot, sparked by the warden’s decision to not fire the corrections officer responsible for Poussey’s death. In the chaos, one of the officers drops his gun and Daya (Dascha Polanco) picks it up, aiming it at an officer’s head as other inmates encourage her to shoot.

The 60-second clip picks up right where this left off, with Daya still debating whether to shoot. We cut to Piper (Taylor Schilling) and Alex (Laura Prepon) deciding they’re going to stay out of trouble before stumbling upon the trouble.

The scene cuts back to Daya as she calls for everybody to be quiet, but not loud enough for everybody to hear. The clip cuts out with the sound of a gunshot.

According to Netflix, Season 5 will take place in real time over the course of three days and will leave “the inmates’ lives forever changed as they are emboldened to fight for redemption, resolution and the respect they deserve.” This has been a long-running conflict throughout the series, as corporate changes in the prison cause them to lose the small comforts they have until it becomes unbearable.

Produced by Lionsgate, “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 will premiere Friday, June 9 on Netflix.
