Watch Sofia Coppola’s ‘Beguiled’ Cast Spoof ‘Girls Gone Wild’ for the 1860s (Video)

Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning reenact Joe Francis’ video relic for the Civil War era

Sofia Coppola and the stars of her new drama “The Beguiled” went wild in between takes on set. “Girls Gone Wild” crazy, to be precise.

It was a grueling shoot done up in Southern Gothic costumes for cast members Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning — but the ladies managed to let off some steam.

“We were all together in this house shooting everyday, and the girls in corsets. One day at lunch, Kirsten and Elle were having water in Solo cups, which reminded us of ‘Girls Gone Wild,’” Coppola told James Corden during a visit to his late night show. Of course, the liquid in the Solo cups featured in Joe Francis’ raunchy 1990s franchise wasn’t usually water …

“So we imagined what ‘Girls Gone Wild 1860s’ would be. I shot a few things on my phone,” Coppola continued.

Team Corden edited the footage into the glorious clip above.

“The Beguiled” fetched Coppola the Best Director award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, so its nice to see a woman reappropriate the unsavory cultural legacy of “Girls Gone Wild.”

Created by Francis, the “reality” series showed real women in party situations like Spring Break and at oceanside college towns drink to excess — from red Solo cups — and bare their bodies for the camera.

Focus Features will roll out “The Beguiled” in limited release on June 23 and expand on June 30.

The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.
