He will likely continue to work closely with TWC as the company recently announced that it would partner with Netflix to release the sequel to “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” simultaneously in IMAX theaters and on the online streaming service in late 2015. The film is to be the first of several major releases backed by Netflix to premiere on the same day on the streaming service and in select IMAX theaters globally.

Netflix shook up the film industry after it moved quickly from announcing the deal with TWC to plans to partner with Adam Sandler for four films. Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos announced earlier this year that it would spend $3 billion on making TV and movies in 2014.

“Think of it as us playing with this idea of episodic and serialized but now in the movie form and seeing what kind of great brand allegiances we can create for Adam’s fans,” Hastings said of the deal. “That’s not everybody, but they’re very identifiable.”

Bruno, who once served in the springboard post of assistant to Harvey Weinstein, departed TWC for HBO for less than a year until the premium cable company’s slate was cut back. The timeline for Bruno’s transition was not disclosed.
