Weinstein will release 'Grace of Monaco' in December
The Weinstein Company has acquired domestic distribution rights to “Grace of Monaco,” an upcoming biopic starring Nicole Kidman as Hollywood star-turned-princess Grace Kelly, the independent distributor announced on Monday.
Weinstein will release the film Dec. 27 in limited markets, just in time for it to qualify for the 2014 Academy Awards.
Kelly appeared in 11 films before that marriage, including "High Society," "To Catch a Thief" and Alfred Hitchock's "Rear Window" and "Dial M for Murder."
Olivier Dahan directed the biopic, which also features Frank Langella, Parker Posey and Paz Vega. Amel, Uday Chopra and Pierre-Ange Le Pogram produced the film, which TWC executives saw earlier this month in London.
“More than 30 years after her death, Grace Kelly’s story continues to be one of insurmountable allure, and we are so happy Olivier Dahan has brought it new life,” TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein said in a statement. “As always, Nicole Kidman’s commanding performance is the perfect portrait of a woman who was not only royalty but who also remains a legend of the silver screen and fashion icon.”
TWC’s David Glasser and Mical Steinberg made the deal with CAA and Le Pogam.
"It has been a wonderful experience to be working with Nicole, Tim, Frank and the whole group,” Dahan said in a statement. “I am very happy now to share the experience with Monsieur Weinstein and the whole team at TWC."
