‘West Wing’s’ Martin Sheen Joins Netflix’s Jane Fonda-Lily Tomlin Comedy

Sheen will play husband to Fonda’s character on “Grace and Frankie”

Martin Sheen has signed on to Netflix’s upcoming original comedy series from Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, A Netflix representative told TheWrap.

Sheen will play Robert, husband to Fonda’s Grace, on the 13-episode first season of “Grace and Frankie.”

A multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner, Sheen’s best known TV role is President Bartlet on Aaron Sorkin‘s “The West Wing.” He also most recently appeared in a recurring role on his son Charlie’s Sheen’s FX series, “Anger Management.” The veteran actor’s long list of movie credits include “Apocalypse Now,” “Catch Me If You Can,” and “The Departed.”

ICM represents Sheen.

The single-camera comedy focuses on nemeses Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin), who are facing the last chapter of their lives, though not in the way they expected. When their husbands announce they are in love with each other and plan to get married, the women find their lives both turned upside down and to their dismay, permanently intertwined. Eventually, to their surprise, they find they have each other.

From Skydance Productions, “Grace and Frankie” is written and created by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris. Paula Weinstein, Kaufman, Morris, Fonda, Tomlin and Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross will executive produce the series.

The comedy is set for a 2015 debut on the steaming video service.
