Good news – Hollywood is running out of bad ideas!

How else to explain this week’s news that there are movies based on Barbie, Peeps marshmallows and Disney’s theme park ride It’s a Small World in development around town?

Film reporter Jeff Sneider knows why these movies are “getting made,” (cough, “The Lego Movie,” cough) but at the same time, laments the sad state of Hollywood, which is putting its eggs in the pre-branded material basket rather than going the extra mile to promote true creativity.

Los Angeles is a town overflowing with writers, directors and other talented people. Is a Peeps movie really the best we can do?
