‘What’s the Deal’ With the ‘Jungle Book’ Movies and the Disney-WB Rivalry? (Video)

If you haven’t noticed, the rivalry between Disney and Warner Bros. has grown beyond the comic book brands Marvel and DC and spilled onto the pages of classic literature. Not only are both studios developing “Beauty and the Beast” movies, but they’re also stockpiling A-list actors for rival adaptations of “The Jungle Book.”

Jon Favreau is directing Disney’s take on the timeless tale, which stars Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, Lupita Nyong’o, Christopher Walken, Ben Kingsley, Giancarlo Esposito and newcomer Neel Sethi.

Across town in Burbank, Andy Serkis will make his directorial debut with Warner Bros.’ version, which stars Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jack Reynor, Naomie Harris, Peter Mullan, Eddie Marsan, Tom Hollander, Rohan Chand and Serkis himself.
