Whitney Houston’s ‘Sparkle’ Clip Offers Glimpse of Singer’s Last Acting Role (Video)

Deceased singer Whitney Houston plays the mother to a trio of singing siblings in remake of 1976 film

Whitney Houston's final film, "Sparkle," hits theaters on Aug. 17, and "Today" aired the first clip from the film Monday, giving audiences an idea of how Houston, who died in February at the age of 48, handled her last acting role.

A remake of the 1976 film of the same name, "Sparkle" follows three sisters who form a singing group, but find themselves dealing with the fallout of fame and drugs. (Houston, who struggled with substance abuse throughout her life, had cocaine in her system at the time of her death, according to the Los Angeles Coroner's Office.) Houston plays Emma, the mother of the three sisters.

The film also stars Jordin Sparks, Cee Lo Green, Mike Epps and Carmen Ejogo.
