Wong Kar Wai Named Jury President at Berlin Film Festival

"In the Mood for Love" director will lead the group that will decide the 2013 Gold and Silver Bear winners

Wong Kar Wai, the Chinese director behind such dream-like masterpieces as "In the Mood for Love,"  will be the jury president at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2013.

He will lead the group that will decide the winners of the festival's Gold and Silver Bear awards.

Getty ImagesWong's visually rich and elliptical works include the urban love story "Chungking Express" (1994), the science fiction infused "2046" (2004) and his first English language film "My Blueberry Nights" (2007).

In 1997 he won the best director award in Cannes for "Happy Together" and received a César in 2001 for "In the Mood for Love."

Wong is currently working on "The Grandmasters," which features Tony Leung ("Lust, Caution") and Ziyi Zhang ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon").

“Wong Kar Wai is one of the most celebrated filmmakers of our time," Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick said in a statement. "His distinctive signature and the poetry of his works have fascinated all of us. For him to become jury president is a wish come true."
