John Lennon's widow is using shocking imagery on Twitter in campaign inspired by Michael Moore
Yoko Ono launched a Twitter campaign this week aiming to end gun violence and used one very shocking image to get her message across: John Lennon's bloody glasses.
The musician's 80-year-old widow posted the picture online Wednesday, along with a message about the "hollowing" effects of senseless violence.
"The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience," she tweeted. "After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him. Yoko Ono Lennon."
"31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year," she also wrote. "We are turning this beautiful country into war zone."
Lennon, who used his notoriety to push for world peace, was shot to death outside his New York apartment — where Ono still lives — on Dec. 8, 1980. The glasses in the photograph are the pair Lennon was wearing at the time he was attacked by Mark David Chapman, who is still in prison for his crime.
She last displayed the glasses on the cover of her 1981 album, "Season of Glass," released six months after Lennon's death
Her online rally for peace appears to have been inspired by fellow activist Michael Moore. Last Friday, the documentarian began calling for "thousands of people" to hold house parties this Saturday to watch his film, "Bowling for Columbine."

In response to Moore's cries to "kick off a mass movement against gun violence from your living room," Ono tweeted on Monday, "Yes! Love, Yoko."
On Tuesday, she reminded Moore and Piers Morgan "1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA" since her husband died.
