‘Young and the Restless’ Casts Daytime Vet Gina Tognoni as New Phyllis

The Emmy-winning “Guiding Light” alum will take on the role vacated by Michelle Stafford

A formidable soap opera veteran is coming to “The Young and the Restless.”

Gina Tognoni, an alum of both “Guiding Light” and “One Life to Live,” has been tapped as a new cast member on the CBS soap, and individual familiar with the casting told TheWrap on Thursday.

Tognoni will take up the pivotal role of Phyllis Summers, a role previously played by Michelle Stafford, who just joined ABC’s “General Hospital.”

The actress will bring Summers back to the screen following a year-long time out. When the show last left Summers off, she had been hospitalized in coma.

The actress played Kelly Cramer on “One Life to Live” from 1995 to 2011, and Dinah Marler on “Guiding Light” from 2004 to 2009.
