Meredith Baxter is coming to Genoa City — and hopefully she’s bringing a designated driver along.

“Family Ties” alum Baxter has signed on for the CBS soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” an individual with knowledge of the casting told TheWrap.

Baxter will play Maureen, the new drinking buddy of socialite Nikki Newman (played by Melody Thomas Scott). Described as charming, intelligent and middle-class, Maureen aspires to a more privileged life and, despite appearing to be kind and sympathetic, she manipulates people by getting them to do what she wants by making them think it’s their idea.

Baxter will debut on “Young and the Restless” Sept. 8.

In addition to Baxter, the soap also recently cast daytime veteran Gina Tognoni, who’s taking up the pivotal role of Phyllis Summers, a role previously played by Michelle Stafford, who’s moved on to ABC’s “General Hospital.”

The series is also bringing back Shemar Moore, who’ll reprise his role as Malcolm Winters for a two-day run in September.
