‘Young and the Restless’ Hits 8-Month Viewership High After ‘General Hospital’ Demo Win

CBS soap grabs largest weekly audience since February

“The Young and the Restless” had a little less reason to be restless last week.

The CBS soap hit an eight-month high in total viewers for the week ending Oct. 20, and took first place in the key female demos of 25-54 and 18-49 among daytime programs as well.

In total viewers, “The Young and the Restless” averaged 4.76 million total viewers, its best weekly performance since the week ending Feb. 10. In the women 18-49 demographic, the soap averaged a 1.9 rating/12 share, while the women 25-54 demo yielded a 1.3/9 average for the week, putting the show in the top slot for daytime shows in both demos.

That’s in contrast to two weeks ago, when ABC’s “General Hospital” pulled off an upset and beat “The Young and the Restless” in the women 18-49 demo for the first time since the week of Feb. 21, 2011.

The week ending Oct. 7 found “General Hospital” averaging a 1.1 rating in the demo, putting it in first place in the demo, though “The Young and the Restless” still edged out “General Hospital” in the women 25-54 demo that week.

Not that “General Hospital” had much to complain about last week. While ceding the women 18-49 demo to “Young and the Restless,” “GH” still enjoyed a two-year high in that demo with a 1.2, as well as a two-year high in the women 25-54  demo, and reached a six-month high in total viewers with an average 2.821 million.
