Zac Efron Tells Jimmy Kimmel Seth Rogen ‘Wanted to Hate’ Him (Video)

The actor appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to promote his first producing effort, “That Awkward Moment”

Zac Efron and Seth Rogen play two guys who hate each other in upcoming comedy “Neighbors,” and Efron told Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday that if he had not introduced himself to Rogen early on his career, the “This Is the End” star might have hated him in real life, too.

“The first time I met Seth I had just done ‘High School Musical’ or ‘High School Musical 2’ … I could not walk by him without just saying how much of a fan I was. I genuinely just had to tell him how much I loved his work and how much I looked up to him,” Efron said. “He looks at me like, ‘Ugh. God dammit. I just wanted to hate you. Before you came over here and we had this conversation, I genuinely just wanted to dislike you for every single reason known to man.’”

“But he’s like, ‘But now I can’t. Dammit. Now you’re actually cool,’” Efron continued. “I was like, ‘Well, I hope we work together some day.’ And he was like, ‘Now I kind of do to.’”

And lucky they did, because Efron described “Neighbors” as “one of the coolest ones I’ve ever been a part of.”

In the movie that may finally destroy Efron’s Disney image, the 26-year-old actor play a jerky frat brother opposite Rogen, a family man who just wants to raise his baby with his wife (Rose Byrne) in peace. When both parties can’t come to an agreement over neighborhood decency, a war of R-rated pranks ensues.

The comedy, directed by Nicholas Stoller (“Get Him to the Greek”), hits theaters on May 9.
