Zynga's chief operating officer John Schappert quit Wednesday, weeks after he lost control of game development in a corporate restructuring.
Schappert, a former Electronic Arts COO, joined the social gaming company in May 2011. His resignation is effective immediately.
"We can confirm that John Schappert has left Zynga and its Board of Directors effective immediately," Zynga CEO Mark Pincus said in a statement to TheWrap. "John has made significant contributions to the games industry throughout his career and we appreciate all that he has done for Zynga."

A recent lawsuit between the "Farmville" maker and EA, its chief rival, does not appear have prompted the resignation.
In June, Schappert was stripped of power as the ailing gaming company attempts to revive itself.
Two executives that once reported to Schappert — David Ko, who runs Zynga's mobile operations, and Steve Chiang, the executive vice president of games — now report directly to Pincus.
"John leaves as a friend of the company and we wish him all the best,” Pincus said.
