Hold your horses. The Academy Awards are not moving to January.
At least not for a couple of years.
Despite rampant speculation after a Los Angeles Times story that said the Academy was exploring the possibility of accelerating the Oscar schedule and moving the 2012 ceremony from February into January, the Academy's Board of Governors voted against making the move at its monthly meeting Tuesday night.
An Academy spokesperson released the following statement to theWrap and selected outlets on Wednesday afternoon:
"The Academy’s Board of Governors has determined that the date of the 84th Academy Awards in 2012 will not be significantly earlier than the now-traditional last Sunday in February. A different date still remains a possibility in subsequent years, and the Academy’s staff and Board will continue to evaluate the advantages and challenges associated with such a change."
