Julia Louis-Dreyfus could potentially break or tie three records this year. The first: If she wins her fifth Emmy for “Veep,” she will tie Don Knotts, Ed Asner, and Candice Bergen for most Emmys won for playing the same character.
A fifth win for her role on “Veep” combined with her previous win for “New Adventures of Old Christine,” would make her the all-time leader in wins in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy category, surpassing Candice Bergen and Mary Tyler Moore.
With her seventh overall Emmy, Louis-Dreyfus would tie for second place for most acting Emmy wins along with Allison Janney, Ed Asner and Mary Tyler Moore.
Allison Janney currently has seven Emmys to her name. A win this year for “Mom” would tie her with current record holder Cloris Leachman with eight each.
“Game of Thrones”
“Game of Thrones” could surpass “Frasier” for most Emmys ever won by a series. “Frasier” won 37 Emmys during its run. “Game of Thrones” has 35 going into Sunday and is up for nine more awards in five categories, including Outstanding Drama Series.
“Modern Family”
It’s a bad year for “Frasier.” If “Modern Family” wins Outstanding Comedy Series for the sixth time, the ABC sitcom would surpass “Frasier” for the most wins in the category.
