‘9-1-1’: Bobby Admits He’s the ‘Dumb Ass’ Who Thinks Buck Isn’t Ready to Come Back to Work (Exclusive Video)

And Athena tries to defuse the situation with cornbread

Turns out making it through a two-episode tsunami disaster doesn’t ensure you’ll get your job as a firefighter back — especially when one of your best friends is the captain whose still worried you ain’t up for the challenge.

In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from Monday’s episode of “9-1-1,” titled “Triggers,” Buck (Oliver Stark) comes to dinner at Bobby (Peter Krause) and Athena’s (Angela Bassett) house and everything is going just fine until Bobby confesses he doesn’t think Buck is ready to come back and join the Station 118 crew. And yes, it all gets very awkward.

It all starts when Buck turns down some collard greens, which he says he can’t eat because of the blood thinners he’s still on (“Too much Vitamin K”) and Athena points out he’s taking care of himself. Buck says that’s so he can get back to work and then he brings up the idea of the team signing a letter of support so he can get approval to return.

When Buck says if Bobby told their superiors he’s ready, then the “dumb asses” would have no choice but to let him come back, Bobby admits he’s the “dumb ass” who thinks Buck isn’t ready yet.

Oh, you could cut the tension like the butter we’d put on the cornbread Athena offers to try to defuse the situation.

“9-1-1” airs Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.
