Congratulations, the “but her emails” meme. You can retire with full benefits, and you have Hillary Clinton to thank for it.
On Thursday morning, the Washington Post reported that on at least five occasions, former FBI director James Comey used “personal email accounts for official government business,” a violation of bureau protocol. And what’s more, apparently he did so while the FBI was investigating Clinton for almost the very same thing. Whoops. Comey’s conduct was disclosed as part of the Justice Department inspector general’s report on FBI conduct during the 2016 election.
The revelation launched a storm of bitter sarcasm about Comey’s apparent hypocrisy on Twitter, including from Hillary herself, whose pithy reaction more than speaks for itself below:

Yeah, that’s a good one.
After Donald Trump’s victory in 2016, the phrase “but her emails” became a sarcastic rallying cry for liberals still sore over how the investigation into Clinton’s use of private email while serving as Secretary of State was treated by media and her critics during the election. Most often, the meme contrasts how coverage of the investigation likely affected the election outcome (despite the fact that she was cleared of wrongdoing), with perceived hypocrisy or wrongdoing by Trump or other republicans.
But it’s probably time for liberals to find a new meme, because it’s gonna be extremely hard for anyone to top Hillary’s contribution.
