“BlacKkKlansman,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “First Man,” “Roma” and “A Star Is Born” have been nominated as the best-edited dramatic films of 2018 by the American Cinema Editors, which announced its nominations for the 69th Annual ACE Eddie Awards on Monday.

In the Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy) category, the nominees were “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Deadpool 2,” “The Favourite,” “Green Book” and “Vice.”

“Black Panther” is the most surprising omission from the ACE Eddie nominations, and the film most likely to land an Oscar nomination even after being bypassed by the honorary society of top editors.

In recent years, more than 90 percent of the Oscar nominees in the Best Film Editing category have first been recognized by the American Cinema Editors. The vast majority of Oscar nominees have come from the ACE Eddie dramatic category – though last year, in a reversal of the usual pattern, three of the Oscar nominees had first been nominated in the ACE Eddies’ comedy category, and only two (including the winner, “Dunkirk”) in drama.

In the animated-feature category, the editors nominated “Incredibles 2,” “Isle of Dogs” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Documentary nominations went to the four most commercial successful docs of 2018: “Free Solo,” “RBG,” “Three Identical Strangers” and “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

In the four series-television categories, “Atlanta,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Better Call Saul” each landed a pair of nominations for different episodes. Other nominees included “The Good Place,” “Portlandia,” “Barry” and “Insecure” in comedy and “The Americans,” “Killing Eve,” “Bodyguard,” “Homecoming,” “Ozark” and “Westworld” in drama.

Winners will be announced at the ACE Eddie Awards on Feb. 1 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
