Hey-lo, Steven Kane: Showtime’s “Halo” series has added the “Last Ship” alum as a second showrunner. Kane, who also worked on TNT drama “The Closer,” will run the series alongside Kyle Killen.
“Halo,” which has been in the works for a while, recently underwent a director change. Now, Otto Bathurst will direct multiple episodes of the show, replacing Rupert Wyatt, who dropped out due to scheduling reasons.
Bathurst most recently directed last year’s “Robin Hood” reboot that starred Taron Egerton as the title character. He also directed the first episode (“The National Anthem”) of Charlie Brooker’s “Black Mirror.”
“Halo” now has a nine-episode order; Showtime originally greenlit 10. The series is set to begin production later this year.
Ordered to series last year, “Halo” is an adaptation of the popular video game franchise. Showtime’s television series will be loosely based on the original 2001 Xbox shooter game, “Halo: Combat Evolved,” which takes place during the 26th century. “Combat Evolved” involves a conflict between humanity and an extraterrestrial threat known as the Covenant.
The show will be executive produced by Killen, Kane, Scott Pennington, Bathurst and Toby Leslie, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. The series will be distributed globally by CBS Studios International.
