(Warning: This post contains spoilers for “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” Season 2 through the finale — obviously.)

Unpacking everything that happened on the Season 2 finale of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is going to take us a hot minute, but the main revelation you need to know up front is this: Sabrina is going to Hell — literally.

At the end of the episode, titled “The Mephisto Waltz,” Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) tells Harvey, Roz and Theo that she wants to go way down under to save her boyfriend, Nick, who was taken into the depths of the fiery pit by Mrs. Wardwell after he entrapped Lucifer, a.k.a. the Dark Lord, in his own body. And oh yeah, the Unholy Prince just so happens to be the teen witch’s dad.

Now, let’s double back to explain that further.

The hour begins with Sabrina, her Aunts Hilda and Zelda, her cousin Ambrose and Nick going over what everything on the Netflix series had been leading up to so far: Mrs. Wardwell coercing Sabrina into fulfilling a prophecy that will lead to Armageddon.

Now the Dark Lord is back in his human form hanging in Greendale and the gates of Hell, which happen to be down in the town’s mines, are ready to open and unleash some nasties on the world. And Sabrina is supposed to rule over all this chaos at the Dark Lord’s side, as his queen.

Sabrina lets Mrs. Wardwell take her to meet with Lucifer, but only after learning her favorite teacher is actually Lucifer’s former lover, Lilith, who wants to help the gang put a stop to his plan.

So the Dark Lord finally sits down with the teen witch and demands she blow Gabriel’s horn and bring about the end of the world. She’s not totally thrilled at the idea of doing that but is thinking she might have to and then things get worse. Nick comes out to reveal he has been getting close to her because Lucifer told him to. Sabrina is heartbroken and spits in Nick’s face, not accepting his confession of true love.

Oh, amid all that we also learn that Lucifer is Sabrina’s father — in a way — because when her parents, Edward and Diana, were trying to have a baby, they looked to the Dark Lord for help. Aunt Hilda says ‘Brina’s mom kinda thought the babe might have been Lucifer’s daughter because of all that.

Once Father Blackwood learns that the Dark Lord wants Sabrina to rule at his side, he decides to poison everyone in the Church of Night except for Prudence and his twin babies. Apparently he’s not prepared for the Spellmans to take control after he made this whole new plan for the church.

But Prudence, even though she was so thrilled to finally be considered a Blackwood, is not having this and tells her father she will kill him for what he’s done. Then she gets Ambrose, Hilda and Zelda’s help to save the poisoned members of the coven.

At the same time, Sabrina is trying to figure out how to outsmart Lucifer after caving and agreeing to blow Gabriel’s horn and begin the Apocalypse. While she’s coming up with her plan to trap him inside the contraption Edward made, which she used to trap Batty Bat back in season 1, Nick shows up to make her like him again — even if she might not trust him.

The Spellmans hatch a scheme along with Nick, Prudence and Lilith that will require the “glamour to end all glamours.”

Then it’s time for a ball thrown by Lilith for Lucifer — because reasons — where Sabrina leads a performance of “Masquerade” from “The Phantom of the Opera” and is crowned to sit alongside her father at his throne. It turns out they were all tricking Lucifer into thinking this fabulous party was to praise him so that Sabrina could catch him in the box. And she does — for like five seconds. He snaps out and they all realize the only way to truly keep him contained is for Nick to bind Lucifer’s spirit inside him. Nick tells Sabrina he loves her and then swallows up her father before being put under a sleeping spell by Ambrose.

The group takes Nick’s body down into the mines, where Harvey, Roz and Theo have prevented the gates of Hell from opening. Lilith takes Nick and, in exchange for Sabrina’s crown, returns the teen witch’s powers and even the actual Mrs. Wardwell.

Now we’re back to the very end, where Sabrina tells her friends over a nice night out at Dr. Cerberus’ that the “Fright Club” — as they’ve dubbed themselves — have a new mission: “Let’s go to hell and get my boyfriend back.”
