Lena Waithe Joins Cast of ‘Westworld’ Season 3

“Master of None” star joins previously announced Aaron Paul as newcomers to cast

“Master of None” star Lena Waithe is joining HBO’s “Westworld” in its Season 3, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.

“The Chi” creator joins the previously announced “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul to the cast of the prestige futuristic drama. Waithe’s exact character details are being kept under wraps.

Waithe won an Emmy for her work co-writing the of “Master of None” episode titled “Thanksgiving.” In film, she starred in Steven Spielberg’s 2018 film “Ready Player One,” and she recently wrapped production on her writing feature debut in the Melina Matsoukas-directed film “Queen & Slim,” starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner Smith.

“Westword,” as created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, began production on its third season recently, and it’s not expected to return to air until 2020.

The story based on the film written by Michael Crichton is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the birth of a new form of life on Earth. It’s a Kilter Films and Bad Robot Production in association with Warner Bros. Television. “Westworld” is executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis and Ben Stephenson.

Waithe currently serves as showrunner and executive producer of BET’s “Boomerang” revival, which was recently announced that it would return for a second season. She’s also the creator and executive producer of “The Chi” on Showtime, which received a Peabody Award nomination and just premiered its second season.

She’s represented by WME, The Mission Entertainment and Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein & Lezcano.
