Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong are Birds of a Feather in Netflix’s ‘Tuca & Bertie’ Trailer (Video)

Animated comedy series comes to Netflix in May

Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong are literally winging it in the trailer for their upcoming Netflix animated series “Tuca & Bertie.”

Haddish voices Tuca, a cocky, care-free toucan, while Wong voices her best friend Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird. Living in the same apartment building, the pair of 30-year-old bird women take on life together in a world where the subway is actually a snake and jaguars make good pets.

Steven Yeun joins Haddish and Wong as a series regular. Guest voices include Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, John Early, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro, Amber Ruffin, Jermaine Fowler, and Tessa Thompson. The series will have its world premiere May 1 at the Tribeca Film Festival ahead of its May 3 Netflix launch.

The 10-episode comedy is created by Lisa Hanawalt, production designer and producer of “BoJack Horseman.” Hanawalt also executive produces along with Haddish, Wong, Raphael Bob-Waksberg (“BoJack Horseman”), Noel Bright (“BoJack Horseman,” “Friends”), and Steven A. Cohen (“BoJack Horseman,” “Jack & Bobby”). Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company produces, and animation is done by ShadowMachine.

The series comes a year after Wong’s second Netflix special “Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife.” She is set to appear in the upcoming film “Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)”, premiering in 2020.

Haddish’s upcoming films include “Limited Partners” coming in 2020, as well as “The Kitchen” and “The Secret Life of Pets 2” coming later this year.

“Tuca & Bertie” debuts on Netflix May 3.
