‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Star Scott Foley Picks Between Frankie and Olivia Pope: ‘Both Completely Emotionally Unavailable Women’

More “Scandal” alums to appear if “Whiskey” is renewed

Scott Foley knows who he’d pick if he had to choose between his old flame from “Scandal” or his new will-they-won’t-they love interest on “Whiskey Cavalier” — and the answer might surprise you.

“Both completely emotionally unavailable women. God, they’re like different bites of the same apple,” Foley told TheWrap of his on-screen love interests Olivia Pope and Frankie Trowbridge.

Despite the fact that Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) chose Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) over Foley’s character Jake Ballard in the final season of “Scandal” — and that Foley’s Will Chase character has a slow-burning, will-they-won’t-they potential romance going with Frankie Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan) on his current show “Whiskey Cavalier” — he’s going with his gut on this one.

“If I had to choose one, I think you have to choose Olivia Pope,” Foley said. “And I know that’s not what I’m supposed to say when I’m talking about ‘Whiskey Cavalier,’ so forgive me. The reason I say that is, although as emotionally closed off as Frankie Trowbridge [is], Olivia is used to working with people, probably a better team player, so in that regard there’s more promise in that relationship.”

“She is a lone wolf, while I’m a team player,” he said of Trowbridge. “She is someone who hides and doesn’t like to talk about her past while Will Chase is really open about his and forthcoming.”

But don’t despair, “Whiskey Cavalier” fans — opposites attract, right?

On that note, Foley had some good news to share. Should ABC renew “Whiskey” for a second season, there will be more “Scandal”-related guest appearances where Bellamy Young came from.

“We have a ‘Scandal’ group text.  I usually receive something inappropriate at least once a day from somebody,” Foley joked. “I’ve asked them all individually if they’d be interested, and everyone, to a person, has said they’d love to come on the show.”

“If there’s a Season 2, I guarantee there’ll be at least one more ‘Scandal’ character, if not more,” he said, though he couldn’t give any hints as to who that might be.

And, since it’s it’s been one year since the “Scandal” series finale, we had to ask where he thinks Jake could be right about now. “Oh, I definitely think he could have made it out of jail. I have a feeling that Olivia Pope had something to do with him getting out of jail,” he said. “I don’t think it’s over.”
