Jon Snow said goodbye to his white, fluffy righthand man, Ghost, on Sunday’s “Game of Thrones.” But when Kit Harington’s character departed Winterfell after asking Tormund to take Ghost up north, where he’ll be happier, his farewell to the pup wasn’t as sweet as fans hoped it would be.
You see, Jon just kinda looked at Ghost in his usual stoic way and then walked off. However, he hugged both Tormund and Sam before leaving them — possibly forever — to go south to King’s Landing and try and help Daenerys take the Iron Throne from Cersei.
So Ghost didn’t even get a pat on the freakin’ head from his longtime owner?
“Since the direwolves are kind of CG creations, we felt it best to keep it as simple as possible,” director David Nutter told the Huffington Post in an interview published Tuesday in response to fan complaints. Nutter — who also directed the Season 8 premiere and Episode 802, along with Sunday’s “The Last of the Starks,” confirmed for the New York Times it was “very much so” a “CGI issue” that kept Jon from tapping the head of his trusty sidekick since Season 1.
We don’t know if this is the last we’ll ever see of Ghost, but if it was, now you know why Jon didn’t get more physical in his farewell.
