TheWrap Lands 14 SoCal Journalism Awards Nominations, Including Best Website

L.A. Press Club will announce the winners at June 30 ceremony

TheWrap received 14 nominations for this year’s SoCal Journalism Awards, including Best Website for a News Organization Exclusive to the Internet, the Los Angeles Press Club announced on Tuesday.

Former senior reporter Itay Hod was nominated for Entertainment Journalist of the Year, and shared nominations with TheWrap founder Sharon Waxman for their 13-part multimedia series “#AfterMeToo: 12 Accusers Share What Happened Next, From Firing to More Trauma.” The series was nominated in both the multimedia package category as well as for soft news feature.

Executive editor Tim Molloy was nominated for entertainment news or feature for his story “Inside the ‘NCIS’ Mess: How a Dog Bite Kept Pauley Perrette and Mark Harmon Apart on Set,” while film reporter Jeremy Fuster got a nod in the gender/LGBTQ reporting category for “Hollywood Gender Gap Shocker: Women Directed Just 3 Percent of This Year’s Studio Films.”

Awards editor Steve Pond was nominated for best entertainment feature for “How Alfonso Cuarón Brought His Memories to Life in ‘Roma’” and managing editor Thom Geier was recognized for his theater reviews.

Creative director Ada Guerin and her team received multiple nominations for their work, including Best Cover Art for Shayan Asgharnia’s shot of Rami Malek from TheWrap Magazine, Best Entertainment Photo for Elisabeth Caren’s photo of the stars of “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” and two Portrait Photo nods for Corey Nickols’ Ted Danson shot and Matt Sayles’ image of Spike Lee.

In addition, TheWrap contributor Richard Stellar earned two nominations, for his appreciation of the late KTLA journalist Chris Burrous and his blog entry “Why Mr. Rogers Is the Perfect Movie Superhero for Our Times.”

The L.A. Press Club’s 61st Annual SoCal Journalism Awards will be held on June 30 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
