The Jangly Man Is Coming in Full ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ Trailer (Video)

Film from producer Guillermo del Toro based on horror book anthology opens Aug. 9

The Jangly Man is coming, a creepy crawly undead humanoid with flailing, contorted limbs as seen in horrific detail in the latest trailer for “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” And that’s not the only monster, either.

In the film, which is produced by Guillermo del Toro based on the classic young adult book series by Alvin Schwartz, a group of kids find a book of spooky stories in a haunted house, and soon, every story in the book comes to life and comes after someone they know.

“Some people believe if we repeat stories often enough, they become real,” the lead character, played by Zoe Margaret Colletti, says in the film. “They make us who we are, and that can be scary.”

Del Toro produced the film and wrote the story, along with Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, for the screen, with the screenplay penned by Dan and Kevin Hageman. André Øvredal (“Trollhunter”) directed.

Colletti stars alongside Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur and Natalie Ganzhorn.

CBS Films and Lionsgate are releasing “Scary Stories,” and Entertainment One (eOne) co-financed. “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” opens Aug. 9. Watch the new trailer above, and check out the official synopsis below:

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time–stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.
